How does it work?
Hover is made up of 5 copper electrode pads that generate a 3D electric field around the surface of the PCB. When your hand interferes with the e-field, Hover detects the variations of the e-field and can pinpoint your hand in the 3D space.
Can it detect other objects?
Yes. An electric field can be distorted with metal objects, so Hover can detect them as well. Try a metal fork or spoon.
Does Hover work when covered by fabric?
Yes. Hover does not need field of vision, so it can be placed under thin non-metallic materials and still work effectively. We've tried fabric, acrylic and wood. We recommend using 2.5mm or thinner material. (A mirror may have metallic components)
My Hover doesn't work. Help!
Here are a few things to try:
- Make sure both VHOST+ and 3V3 are plugged in. These are mandatory. We have built in level shifters into the Hover, so it will work with 3v3 and 5V Hosts.
- If that doesn't work, try hooking up a resistor + led to the LED pin. Any gesture swipes should trigger the LED on the back of Hover to light up. This will help validate that your Hover is detecting properly. It that LED lights up, maybe try checking your I2C hookup again.
- Make sure there are no metal objects near by. This should help ensure the Hover isn't getting interfered with when trying to detect your gestures.
